What is your "Acoustic Repertoire"?

What's Hot

As per title... I'm looking for ideas (strum alongs, fingerstyle, anything). Tunes I currently play on my acoustic:

500 miles
Crazy (Aerosmith)
Fingerstyle version of White Wedding
The odd 'Guns tune
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Big Love ('Mac)
Used to play Tommy's Day Tripper/Lady Madonna but haven't tried that for some time
More Than Words
Hole Hearted
Spanish Fly
Beautiful Girls
Probably some others I can't remember...

Would like to try and incorporate a cool slide tune. I don't usually do non-standard tunings.
I'm trying to sing along to half of these but it can be tricky (for me, anyway).

Anyway... looking for some good suggestions. Maybe a good acoustic showpiece with a hook. Be good to hear what your acoustic repertoire is! (Just remembered I'd love to play some Newton Faulkner - will have to look into that!)

I'm not claiming to be able to play all of these, but here are my suggestions:

Blues Run the Game - original by Jackson C Frank, also versions by Bert Jansch and Simon & Garfunkel
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Zep
Street Spirit - Radiohead - can be fingerpicked or flatpicked
    High and Dry - Radiohead
Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters
Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
    Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
    Razor - Foo Fighters
May You Never - John Martyn (think it's drop D)
1952 Vincent Black Lightning  - Richard Thompson definitely an altered tuning but if you want a showpiece this is undeniably it!
Loads of other Richard Thompson songs, now I come to think of it… Beeswing, for instance
    Anji - Bert Jansch
Pretty much any other Bert Jansch stuff!
Wild Wood - Paul Weller - very simple song but some nice chords
The Rain Song - Zep again
    Old Man - Neil Young
Dream On - Aerosmith (intro is great for fingerstyle)
Life By The Drop - SRV
    Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac
    Layla Unplugged - Clapton

Basically I could go on for hours...

    Big Sur - RHCP
I used to love her - Rolling Stones
I feel fine - the Beatles
    Under the bridge - RHCP
Living on a prayer - Bon jovi (they do a really nice acoustic version)
    Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac
Needle and the Damage Done - Niel Young
Knocking on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan
    Patience - G&R
    Californication - RHCP
Mrs Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel
Spider and the Fly - Rolling Stones
Got me wrong - Alice in chains
Love for sale - Bon Jovi
    More than words - Extreme
People should smile more - Newton Faulkner
    Everybody hurts - REM
Back to the old house - The smiths
There she goes - The Las
    Wonderwall - Oasis
Don't look back in Anger - Oasis
    Losing my religon - REM

Father and Son - Cat Stevens
    Proud Mary - Steeler's Wheel
Cat's in the cradle - Ugly kid Joe
    Nothing else matters - Metallica

As previous poster I would also highly recommend 1952 Vincent Black Lightning  - Richard Thompson, such a tune!

Did anyone see him play this on Song Writer's Circle a few year ago on BBC4?

I'm a big fan of RT but it was striking watching that just what a brilliant player he is. I left my acoustic alone for quite a few weeks after that was on....

We were lucky enough to see him play live last year. Absolutely jaw-dropping. One of the two most impressive performances I've seen along with Albert Lee.

I'm a big fan of the Simon & Garfunkel finger style songs, The Boxer as somebody mentioned above, America is also an excellent one and a bit less well known, good mix of broken chords and strumming. Need a reasonable vocal range for the Garfunkel vocals though!
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Guys this is great.. I feel my acoustic tunes are very "electric tunes on an acoustic" so I really want to get some proper acoustic feeling going. Keep 'em coming, don't stop!

    Also remembered

One of the pieces I love playing is an Eric Roche transcription of Starry Starry night - It was in Guitar Techniques in the mid 90s - long lost the tab but if you can track it down it'd be well worth it - seem to remember the version was by Chet Atkins - also a fingerstyle version of Cavatina is worth learning.

I have never seen Richard Thompson live, but I must! He is an incredible player!

This is the set list I tried a couple of weeks ago (not necessarily in this order):

    Free Fallin' - Tom Petty

Be My Downfall - Del Amitri

Just Like A Man - Del Amitri

Driving With The Brakes On - Del Amitri

Sleep Instead Of Teardrops - Del Amitri (are you seeing a theme here?)

If I Ever Loved You - Justin Currie (see, theme still going...)

    Wicked Game - Chris Isaak

    Home - Daughtry

Poker Face - Lady Gaga (but Daughtry cover)

Between Heaven And Hell - Zakk Wylde

Sleeping Sickness - City And Colour

Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi

The Space Between - Dave Matthews Band

    Outside - Staind

    A Little Respect - Erasure

    Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

Watch Over You - Alter Bridge - Open G

Open Your Eyes - Alter Bridge - DADGAD

Norwegian Wood - The Beatles - DADGAD

Write It On Your Skin - Newton Faulkner - DADAGAD + loop pedal for vocals

Teardrop - Massive Attack/Newton Faulkner - DADGAD + loop pedal for guitar (yes, I'm a cheat)

Gone In The Morning - Newton Faulkner - DADGAD

Everlong - Foo Fighters - DADGAD

Ticket To Ride - The Beatles

    Runaway Train - Soul Asylum

Where Everybody Knows Your Name - Adapted from the Foy Vance cover

Hey Ya! - Outkast (The Blanks cover)

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

    Tribute - Tenacious D

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynryrd Skynyrd

    Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus

As you can probably tell, a lot of my set is quite downbeat/depressing, needless to say it didn't go down well in a pub where they wanted singalong classics...

My band - Crimson on Silver  For sale - Blackstar HT-5S

Gear - Guitars, amps, effects and shizz. Edited for Phil_aka_Pip, who is allergic to big long lists.

I mostly try (and fail) to play the following:

    Anything by Jason Mraz
    Anything by John Mayer
Anything by Vertical Horizon (more success with this! "Man Who Would Be Santa" is my absolute favourite track to play)

    And more recently;
    Anything by Deaf Havana.

Do you guys sing along as well as play, or is it mainly just the guitar playing?
    Do you have videos/recordings? :)

First time out for the GS Mini too, plus it went down better at the open mic than my first gig!

I've got some (old!) videos uploaded to YouTube here: www.youtube.com/jon1eve

Some of them are pretty bad and youtube has butchered the quality over the years (the oldest ones don't even sync audio and video any more)
