I have
only red a couple of novels over the past few years, preferring instead to read
half to three quarters of a nonfiction book on Politics / Business / Food
Science / Religion / History and then stack it on my bedside table as a tribute
to my inability to complete anything.
However, a solution to this has found in the splendidly brief and superbly written 'Reunion' by Fred Uhlman. At a palatable 75 pages, its economy is admirable. The story of two boys from different social backgrounds meeting and becoming friends in pre-war Germany, the effect their friendship has on each other and on their families.
Written in the late 60's or early 70's, it's both powerful and poetic with an utterly devastating final chapter. Highly recommended.

Beautiful writing and very moving. About a war photographer and his fate in 70’s Vietnam and Cambodia.
