OS X Mojave questions

I'm still running Sierra on a retina MBP. Would upgrading  a) improve performance, b) reduce performance or c) make no difference?
Would I need to de-authorise then re-authorise plugins? Is a Time machine backup sufficient or do I need some other hdd image in case it all goes pear shaped? Are there still any issues with music soft/hardware?

I'm not really fussed about the machine looking different at night or whatever the UI enhancements are, it runs pretty solidly as is, although sometimes it doesn't recognise the AI when it wakes up.

    Do you use Pro Tools?

It still is not qualified for Mojave.

the week after I updated to Mojave (auto update when it came out) on my Macbook (Air, 2014) my hard drive died. May be a coincidence of course. Since getting it repaired power consumption has gone up quite a bit and battery life is about half what it was before. Whether that's a consequence of anything they did when repairing it, and my having to restore everything from Time Machine, or has anything to do with Mojave I of course cannot tell.
