That sucks, no need for arseholes, anywhere, ever. Good on you for pulling them up.

The staff in Guitar Guitar Epsom though are excellent, really laid back and will leave you in peace if you want but incredibly helpful when you need it.

Guitar shops need to sell guitars, by walking out without buying, you hurt the store.

I've had a bit of the same thing before and it hits you like a wet fish, but it did cost the shop in question a couple of sales off me.
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

I’ve been in music shops all over the U.K., USA, Italy, France, Germany, Luxembourg and probably a few other places I can’t remember... Since I was a teen. Never had a problem. In fact, if anything, I’m the one who has to slip away and make my excuses as they offer me increasingly expensive guitars to try which I can’t afford.
I enjoy chatting about gear and trying stuff out. Don’t know why some people seem to get crap. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.

I'd happily admit personally to being a bit sensitive when it comes to my guitar playing.

  • I've had good experiences sending my wife into Guitar Guitar in Camden.

    Bye!

Many years ago I had some spare funds, and thought I might buy a new(er) car than my old wreck of an Escort diesel estate (no turbo).

One place I visited sold Alfa Romeos, I couldn't afford a new one but a s/h one was in my reach. I looked at a couple outside and wandered inside to make enquiries.

Now I will admit that as a fairly scruffy individual I probably don't fit the Alfa Man profile, but none of the sales people emerged from their offices to ask if I wanted any help.

I found this hilarious and took my money elsewhere :)

The best bit about GuitarGuitar in Camden is the *excellent* coffee bean shop across the road.

I use Guitar Guitar in Camden all the time and never have any problems. Mind you, I have spent thousands of pounds in there.

The only shop I've ever had a real problem in is Westside on Denmark St. The boss of that shop is one nasty, cocky little cunt.

At a guitar emporium in Camden today.  Just browsing.  Overheard snidey remarks as I trialled a guitar.

Walked up to them and said sorry i know they have a shit job and get shit pay but thats the way life is.

I'd like to add FUCK OFF
Thats the way life is huh?

    Kinda defeats your own argument....
The only easy day, was yesterday...

There are no places more commented on about snideyness than gyms and guitar shops. I do think there is a little ego at play, possibly down to the judgement/scrutiny/shitness of the staff. Which shouldn’t exist. If someone tries a guitar/pedal/amp and they’re obviously not a beginner, like if someone starts working out and they know what they’re doing and not going to hurt themselves, then staff and gawkers should shut their fucking pie holes.
it boils my piss when I pick up a guitar in a shop that needs a setup or new strings or whatever and Fat Elvis, Chad and Vetyver are behind the counter chatting shit about a kid trying out his first guitar in the same way when I go to a gym and Steroid McGee is telling some poor bastard the best suppliment to maximise his glutes when there are loose weights all over the place and a load of some oaf’s sweat all over the machines. Pick them up, wipe it up and shut the fuck up, Arnie. The spinning instructor is not looking at you.

  • I've always found that playing the opening motif's to Zoot Allures, slowly and with generous whammy bar vibrato, generally makes all guitar shop staff bugger off and leave me alone.

I think a lot of it is that guitar shop staff go into it thinking it is all about playing guitars all day, when in reality it is:

    phone calls
    cashing up
    stock takes
    handling deliveries
    luggin amps about
    targets
    cleaning the store
    etc
    etc

Try saying ‘listen here my good man, I’d suggest you buck up your ideas or my valet will horsewhip you until you submit to my god given superiority.
    Take that, vile miscreant’.

Oh, no doubt. And yet the customer has to suffer for their naivety? Are the people who work in Topshop saying “cor, this is shit. I thought we’d just be trying on clothes all day.”
