> An ebony (rosewood, or maple) fingerboard
> A 24.75" scale length
> Humbuckers that manage classic hard rock and traditional jazz
> A hardtail or Floyd Rose bridge
> A weight of 8lbs or less
> A preferably chunky neck with good upper fret access

...And costs less than £2K (ideally less than £1.5K...or less than £1K)

First thought is a Yamaha SA2200 and although they're great, I wanted to see if there's something more exciting to be looking at. I like superstrats, semi-acoustics and jazz boxes.

I also like the idea of going acoustic for the first time, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Good suggestion - I had an SC58 and unfortunately I ended up going back to Yamaha SGs and then to a Seventy Seven, as I just couldn't get the tones I liked for the £3K I paid and I thought the PRS TOM looked a bit 'blocky' for the instrument. Flawless build however.

I was thinking ESP until the chunky neck preference. The thin U neck isn’t tiny, but it’s definitely not chunky.

Reverend Sensei - a used HB would have rosewood + humbuckers, the current ones have Blackwood Tec. The RA or RA FM has ebony + Railhammers (which are not dramatically different to humbuckers). Hard tail, medium oval neck, 24.75" scale, good upper fret access and light weight (Korina) contoured body.

If you fancy something bigger bodied (335 size) and semi-hollow, their Manta Ray or Kyle Shutt signature would fit your description too.

This perfectly describes my ESP LTD Ninja - it's even got a fairly decent sized neck for a "metal" guitar.

I'd look for an old Shecter C-1 Deluxe. Ebony board, 24.75" scale, fat neck, good upper fret access and nice versatile humbuckers. A friend of mine has one and it's an astonishing guitar for the price. Possibly not what you've got in mind but I figured a left-field suggestion is better than no suggestion!

Gibson SG? The Gothics have ebony boards but most  have rosewood. Certainly no issues with upper fret access. An SG pretty much fits the definition of classic rock tone.....Angus!! Not so sure about jazz but it can get fairly dark on the neck pickup with the tone rolled off. Mine (a Gothic) has a decent chunky neck and isn’t too heavy.

Jackson fusion was the first guitar that came to mind.
