I haven't played it yet.  It might sound incredible !
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

    How is this possible?

Have you just spent the day weighing it and complaining about it?

I seem to recall somebody stripping the finish off one of these and finding the finish alone weighed half a kilo. So you could try that if the weight is a problem.

It's daft when people prefer American to other countries but this is the first I've heard someone preferring Indonesia to China, that really it bizarre to me.

Lol that really is pretty mental to have had a new guitar in your hands for at least over 6 hours and have weighed it more than once but not played it.

    My mind is blown

Because I'm in a weird mood today.  It's getting very close to when I will find out if I still have a job or not.  I'm not in a mood to make music, and I don't want the first tunes played on it to be Leonard Cohen's "Songs to jump off a bridge to".

That being the case put it away until you are ready to enjoy it.

I'll stick a strap on it later and see how it feels.  If it's too unbalanced I'll stick another body on it.  That way, I can keep the original body mint should I ever decide to sell it.

What's the lightest tonewood?  Ash?  Alder?

If it's new and you don't like it you'd be mental to swap the body

Sorry to rub it in, but my CV50s Tele weighs just 7Ibs 2oz/3.24 kgs and is well balanced. Not sure why you'd prefer Indonesian to Chinese made? I've played some excellent Chinese Squiers, some of the best recent Squiers i.m.o.

I’ve just weighed it again.... it’s now 10lbs!!  The bloody thing is growing!

If you have a poo, it might go back down to 9lb again.

    Just a thought.

I had a butterscotch one, it was also pretty heavy - but I don't mind a heavy tele, they seem to sound better to me than the light ones i've tried. Mine sounded ace.

Why?  It's only a collection of bits bolted together.  For under fifty quid I could a) get the weight down b) preserve the resale value by keeping the original body mint and hopefully keep the same tone by using the same neck and pickups.

What's the alternative?  Reject it and spend much more than fifty quid more to get to a standard Fender Tele, buy used (with all the potential issues there) or go downwards to an Affinity or Bullet?  I genuinely can't see why you think it's mental.

If you are changing the body may as well change the neck at the same time whilst you have it apart.

Well when I had mine I ended up replacing the wiring harness, jack socket and bridge because they aren't especially great quality and those would be the bits you would be keeping.

It's also going to be a load of work and you may find not everything fits perfectly.

The alternative would be send it back, go to a guitar shop and find a light one which will be free and require zero effort.

Nor does Keef - when it comes to taking down a stage invader...

(If you do this - don’t forget to nonchalantly put your guitar back on afterwards and carry on as if nothing’s happened.)
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it
