He's from a 'posh' background (worth listening to his Dessert Island Discs on iPlayer).

Thoroughly decent bloke (sold his expensive London house and gave money to a homeless charity).

Take your point about his hair but few Barnetts from that period look good now. Both him and Knopfler sport exactly the same style these days - as sadly do I.....
