Sometimes on my board i have 5x pedals connected to my cioks dc 5 and sometimes 4x

Question; is there any harm when running 4x to leave the extra cable attached in situ for lengthy periods?

Reason i be askin' is, the fella i bought the board and cioks from attached the cioks PS to the Nano right up against the side so that to remove a cable means removing the cioks!

No, just try to avoid the spare cable making electrical contact with anything, eg the casing on a pedal.

I use offcuts of patch cable outer jacket to slip over the plugs. Keeps them insulated (and warm).

I'd never thought of that.  I use bits of plastic bag, held on with elastic bands. I'm willing to admit your solution is more elegant :anguished:

I just wrap a bit of electrical tape over the tip. I’m a total slag, though.

Vacuum tube blanking plugs, little silicon condom efforts. Lots on ebay in multi sizes. I've used those before.

The outer jacket of instrument cable you strip off before soldering the braided wire to a jack plug.
Most cable has the inner diameter of a power plug.

Or a bit of insulating tape. Just use some of that contact cleaner you bought for your scratchy jack socket. if it’s been on a long time.
