So I have about £300 burning a hole in my pocket at the minute and it has occurred to me that I currently don't have an excellent home setup.

I'm after something with the following features :-
Amps and fx
Aux input
Line out
Headphones socket
Maybe a computer software editing thingy
Not too big
Not a combo or head

I currently have a zoom g3 and a Yamaha dg stomp but fancy something a bit more upmarket.

What's out there for my budget? I have no qualms about buying used either!

Yamaha THR would fit the bill. Three models to choose and youd have plenty of change out of your 300 quid.

Think theres one up for sale on here too.

It's a shame you don't want a combo as the Boss Katana would be the simple answer.

Helix stomp would be the obvious answer if can stretch a bit further or look out s/h.

Absolutely a Yammy THR10. Spend the extra £150 on a budget guitar, 75 lottery tickets, 50 KFC tower meal deals or about 30 pints in London pubs.

I'll say! Did they have blacked out windows and no street lights last time you were there?

I was drinking in The Jugged Hare (Victoria area), it's a Fullers pub, London Pride was £4.40, that was their standard price. ESB was £4.60.

December 2003, I order 2 pints of snakebite and black* and hand over my £5, waiting for my change. The bar person waits for the rest of my money. We're both still stood there waiting in this permanent impasse.

The moral of the story is, don't leave Yorkshire.

God I’m glad I don’t live in London anymore. I think beer drinking was only made possible by drinking at home or going to Samuel Smith establishments.

Did he invite you to "stay with me" because you had money on your mind

May I be the first to mention the Boss Katana 50?

Has the advantage of being useable at small jams and gigs as well.

As well as the Yamaha THR there is the Vox Handbag, if you need something small.  It has the advantage over the THR of Bluetooth.

from my inconclusive search for something similar it seems 300 is a bit of a no-man's land - compromise on quality, go with reduced features (Amplifirebox is below 300), or stretch the budget to get into Helix Stomp or full Amplifire territory

    I'd look at:
    Pod hd 500x
Amplifire 3 (some limitations on aux in, especially if you plan to use an expression pedal). There's an AA12 on ebay at the moment which might be worth a look.
    Line 6 hx stomp
    Hotone ampero

    Katana
    Zoom g5n. Maybe.

Zoom g5 yes....g5n no. See my posts on it.

As for all the love on the Yamaha THRs...played the vanilla version....Yuk. Fine for a table top amp, but the Vox version is better.

I know you said no combos but In my view you'd be way better off with a little Vox Valvetronix 20 or 40, Fender Mustang 1 or 2, or Marshall Code.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)
