Other guitarist in my first ever band had one. Sounded great. Bloody expensive as I remember.

Played alongside a guitarist with a TBR 1m stereo head. It was immense. Killed the Dual Rectifier I had at the time.

I owned a Chubster once, mixed bag. Cleans were super lovely, tonally very flexible, drive channel didn't do it for me, had bad tube rattle which I couldn't cure.

Top stuff, built like tanks. I had a Rivera Jake and a Chubster. Agree with majorscale - drive channel wasn't channel of choice for me either (altho it was cool on occasion). However, the 'fender channel' was great - plus they had a mid switch which is like a blackface/tweed setting. Good option s/h as they don't fetch top money.
I did a few youtube thingies (ahem).
    Here's one -

Do they do a good clean tone?

0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • @ROOG emphatically yes from me.

I have a couple Rivera's and the clean tones are the strong point of both of them. (TBR and a Venus 5).

@FreddieVanHalen I quite fancied the Clubster 25 they had in The Guitar Store Southampton, sadly madness intervened and I bought a small Fender instead.

  • Yep the Guitar Store in where I got my Rivera stuff from, very helpful folks there.

I can see why some people have mixed feelings about the drive channels on some of the Rivera amps although I like the ones I've tried. All personal taste I s'pose...

I've owned a knucklehead in the past also - fantastic amp for metal and heavier styles and also with a great clean channel - I struggled to get it to do lower gain crunch which is why I sold it....great amp for what it did well though.

Personal taste as has been said, but I don't like them, the cleans are nice but the drive and the just-breaking-up tones don't do it for me, too brittle sounding. I'd rather use a Fender and a decent pedal.

I had a Clubster 25 for a year or so. Excellent amp and I'd have kept it if it had a Mid control and MV. Cleans were wonderful. Drive was good in a modern Marshally way, which was a lot of fun but not useful in the badn I was in at the time- I only used it just past clean with pedals for dirt.
