Go and spend some time with a mate.  If you're on your own, you'll just fret about it.  Worrying isn't going to change a thing and they're clever bastards these days.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

well, just as no plan of battle survives first contact with the enemy, no medical plan survives 1st contact with a consultant who wants to get in on the action. The surgery is now on hold pending more tests as the liver surgeon (a top guy in the country apparently) wants to do his surgery at the same time as the cardiology team (in fact, he was almost dismissive of what they will be doing). He described what he wants to do as ''really quite complex'' and he seemed to be getting almost excited by the challenge, he's talking about getting a vascular surgeon in from London, so we are on hold now while they carry out more tests and scans, but now she's an hour away rather than 40 mins.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

Not sure it matters if its an hour away or 5 mins up the road, when you are separated from the one you love and know they are in pain, you just want to be with them.  Thinking of you dude and hoping all gets resolves quickly.

I ate a whole tray of spicy enchiladas for dinner, and it has made a pre-bedtime reappearance. I have dedicated the entire experience to you and your wife; best wishes to you all tomorrow.

They cancelled my surgery after I'd been nil-by-mouth for a day (when the nurse approached me with a menu I thought something was up) and I had to come back a week later with an assurance that I would be first on the list.

You have to trust that they know what they are doing.

I saw my cardiologist yesterday and he said that everything was fine and they didn't need to see me again. That's six months and one week after surgery, I never thought that things could move so quickly. Here's to your wife receiving the same news in a similar timeframe, if not sooner.

Surgeons are amazing and it sounds like they've gotten straight on it so your wife is in a good place right now.
Fingers crossed for you all today.

My take on surgeons (especially the higher up they get):

Performing feckin miracles with knives and techy things: check
Communicating with normal people and their utterly normal fears: Er, nope

Best of luck Vim - everything crossed here.

That’s pretty much the NHS all over in my experience.

    Rubbish at sticking to appointments.

Great at doing the actual surgery, when you do finally get seen.

Reasonable at helping with the recovery in hospital.

    Appalling at the discharge process.

I've had three procedures under the blade in my life. Each time the surgeons were helpful, communicative, (appeared) really concerned, attentive. The first time I had surgery, I had my right kneecap pieced back together by Mr Chirara in St Margarets, Epping. He was present and spoke to me before the operation, appeared by my bed every day as I lay healing for two weeks, and came to inspect his work and me after the  were removed and during the plaster change and he also came to see me several times during my physio-therapy. A month after discharge I was called into a follow up appointment and he was there too.

The other two times were hand surgery where the surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists were all brilliant.

It must be pretty damn stressful being a surgeon. I rarely think of them as arrogant, just needing to keep a professional distance is all. They're human like the rest of us.

I hope the procedure went well @VimFuego. Keep us posted.

Firing one out for you now sir
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
