Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

    Nice lyrics

I've just noticed that I independently discovered all of the chords that appear in the opening section of this song, as I used them in something I wrote a while ago.

I need to come up with some lyrics that have something to say, so I'm looking for some inspiration and here I am going through a few old classics ...
