I keep being drawn to Vox AC30's . . Ive had 3 of them in my time and only 1 of them ( the oldest a 69 or 70 i think ?? ) was actually any good. I just cant stop noodling them on eVil Bay and drooling at them . . . Its like a Porn Addiction but slightly less physical . . . I have a FANTASTIC Blackstar Artisan 15 combo that spanks the pants off 2 of my old AC30's ( the 2 Korg era Junk Shite Marshall made AC30TB's ) and its almost on par with the good AC30 plus the Artisan is 100% reliable and built like a fricken tank, completely unlike the 2 Korg Era Junk Shite Marshall Made AC30TB's . . . BUT . . . Some days I could sell a kidney to buy one . . .  I dont even gig anymore !!  Whats the fucks up with me ! ! !
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

I know how you feel...I have my first one in the post!

I'm looking forward to: the sound.

I'm not looking forward to:  The weight, the volume...

    :p

  • I love the clean sound of ac30s, even at low volume. It's almost hi fi, super clear and punchy.

Have you tried an artisan 30? I know it's not the same, but it might sound different enough to the 15 that it scratches an itch and gives you an amp you trust to be reliable.

I owned one for about 6 months but sold it to get the Artisan 15 ! ! !   . . It was a really good amp, monster heavy though, but I borrowed an Artisan 15 and was simply stunned by its versatility and tone . . . I just had to have one . . . In my view the Artisan 15 is the better of the two but thats just my view.

  • I had an early sixties ac30 when I was young and idiotic (I spent half my annual maintenance on it when I was a student, when students got such things). It was awful. But I know what you mean. They have that mystique.

Understood. I had an SG that I wanted to sound like Angus with.  I never did, but the guy I sold it to did.

Same with the Super Lead 100 1973.  Never did sound like him or Hendrix.

I think it's about getting the sound in your head, but you can't.  Not unless you listen to it afterwards.   You're too busy playing at the time to hear it properly.

I do like the sound of Vox though.  So tempted by the HW AC15 on here.  Just glad it's miles away and the trade likelihood is low.
