What would you put on an "intro to FX pedals" board for your kid?

I have a spare Pedaltrain Mini (the old kind) kicking about, so I thought about sticking some fairly normal pedals on it for my lad to experience pedal-dom - what would you put on there?

I'm thinking a TS-alike, a simple delay, maybe a chorus,  - I want to keep it as representative examples of things rather than something esoteric or "the best booteek version of..." kind of thing.

Be interesting to hear what you'd suggest...

Boss - Blues Driver/Metal Zone (depending on interest), Chorus, Flanger, Tuner, maybe a wah pedal - all s/h, 'cos you know it's the start of  his GAS career

EDIT:  As JS said vvvv a DD-3.

A looper of some sort too for learning

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I'd probably go Boss almost all the way (unless you're trying to squeeze every last drop of space, in which case Mooer). Boss is almost always solid, literally and figuratively, and while rarely the best of the best, almost always a good representation.

I'd put a Dunlop Mini Wah on there too.

So Crybaby, SD-1, CE-whatever, DD-3. You've probably got one space left? I'd put a Metal Zone on there even though they are terrible because messing about with one is a rite of passage and no one is truly an electric guitarist until they've used a fizzy tone with no mids. But a Flanger, Phaser, or Reverb would be the sensible shout. Or an Octave! There. OC-2/3 is my sensible suggestion.

I’d just get a cheap multifx, then he can suss out what all the different fx sound like and which ones he likes.

"here's a shitter, harder to use option to work out what you like"

I've got a Helix that lives in the cupboard - if he gets tempted down the dark side he can dabble with that

I haven’t a lot of experience with Boss fuzzes.

You know whats genuinely a great fuzz, ideal for newbies, the Life is Unfair - Dream Left Behind.

Based on a big muff and with one knob (volume), it’s as simple as it gets. Cleans up with guitars volume knob so is a good introduction to that mechanic. Pretty affordable too. Unfortunately, I’m out of stock of them but head over to the Manufacturers website and grab one!

A Crybaby, a tubescreamer circuit, a Rat pedal (or a Metal Zone if he has aspirations in that direction), a Boss delay.

If he isn't rough with things then some Behringer pedals can cut down on cost.

    A Boss ME-50.

~£100 second hand, and all the pedal types you really need to try, with the possible exception of an auto-wah.

MXR Distortion +. Only pedal anyone could ever need. Give them a multifx and they'll spend forever playing with presets making whale noises rather than playing guitar. Plus the family will likely have to listen to it!

I just got DD1 her first guitar, and found a Peavy Vyper amp lying around. This amp isn't great, but it has a bunch of easily accessible effects built-in.

I was just going to type out petty much exactly this. Maybe something classic and swirly/throbby as well - Phase 90, TR2, Micro Chorus, etc.

TS Rat Muff Phase 90 DD3

Something like a Mooer Red Truck would also be a good shout as a pre made pedalboard.
