it is of course a Newham Audio Equipment Condign...

anyone ever seen one of these or heard of the company? It seems like it’s been built to a high standard. It sounds decent clean but I’ve not tried to crank it as I doubt the wharfdale W12s could handle the output.

RS transformers were excellent, never known one fail by fair means. If that is the HyGrade OP traff with Ultra Linear taps the amp is probably "too good" for guitar use but will be montrously loud and clean. Those grey capacitors however were not so good. Any that have HT on them should be replaced.

I think Newham Audio were best known for disco consoles.

It looks roughly like a Fender Bandmaster copy with a higher output. Not all that well made but should work OK - although it may need a fair bit of servicing. You're wise not to crank it though - that would be a risk to both the speakers and the amp.

As Dave said those grey caps have a high failure rate, and the KT88 in the close-up looks knackered, although it will probably still work. You won’t notice any difference at low volume anyway, as long as it’s working a bit. The other one might be worth more than the rest of the amp though, if it tests good...

I know GEC 88's are desirable but the transformers are where the money is in that amp.

Only if they’re the exact types used in a famous amp. If they’re not then they’re almost worthless.

If the OT is an ultralinear then it’s not.

You can also swap the valves without ruining the amp :).

Bentley Acoustic were actually valve re-sellers not manufacturers, the valve in question does look like a GEC KT 88, with side getters, but in any event they would need testing to determine if they were valuable or not. I would definitely get the amp checked over, the grey RS electrolytics and the cans will be suspect, together with a few leaky coupling caps no doubt. Interesting bit of kit all the same.
