I’ve been listening to this stunningly beautiful, underrated song a lot lately, and there are a couple of lines in the wonderful storytelling, that I’m not clear about.

In the line “The Bailey, the Strangely's, the smoke and the speed and the acid.”

What is The Bailey and the Strangely’s?

In the line “
Three children, one wife, a twist of the knife and a scandal.”

What is he referring to with the twist of a knife and scandal part?
I don’t have a gambling problem, I’m winning, and winning is not a problem for me. That’s like saying that Iron Maiden have an awesomeness problem.

Googlefest    The Bailey is apparently a bar on Duke St in Dublin near Grafton Street, and The Strangely's is a nickname for local psych-folk band Dr Strangely Strange. Moore played on their second album Heavy Petting in 1970. This is side 1.

  • Excellent sleuthing there, detective!

Now, can you help on the case of the twisted knife and the scandal?
