There were quite a few questions about religion which seemed weird. 

And it felt like skewing insofar as the questions push you to answer in a way that will appear on those axes.  I wanted a dimension that recorded disillusionment and apathy.  Or did it account for that and it's just that I never read it?

I presumed the religious slant meant this was more about American ( or even French or German) politics than British. Which might also explain ( the OP excepted) why we seem on a narrow band if the test is biased toward the USA.

This is where I currently stand. I've done this compass many times. I always seem to hover around the same place vertically, but I veer between the 4th square from the centre towards the left or the right, depending on whether I've smoked a joint I suppose!

You only need two boxes. Left Authoritarian- that covers Communist Fascist and Socialist, they are all Statists.  and Right Libertarian, that covers people who want to remove the State from interfering and stealing from them.

I do think this thing seems more aimed at Americans, where the regular political discourse is so narrow that questions that might as well have been "is this none of your fucking business?" and "are you a decent human being?" would have been controversial.

Franco and Hitler would both be authoritarian left based on their economic policy and Chile is by a mile the best country to live in within South and Central America. Right Authoritarian= Singapore. Wouldnt live their but by far the worlds best run economy. Italy seems to have gone that way but has one of the world's stupidest economic governance 

Left Libertarian is a contradiction in terms, as you cant believe in freedom for some but not for others, it's simply not logical. It also tends to lead to a lot of criminality and corruption (see Spain, Portugal as examples)
