Online selling phrases that put you off

What's Hot
"Grab a bargain" (it rarely is!)
"No offers" (Ok then, you probably won't get any at *that* price)
"Made at the famous "x" factory in China/Korea/Indonesia" (If it's that famous, why do you need to bang on about it?)
"Ultra rare finish" (Because hardly anyone bought it in that colour. No, that doesn't justify doubling the new price of your orange Epiphone)

"Rare" = no one wanted it then and even less do now.

"Up for sale we have ..." like it's a high class auction house or something. I know it's probably just a turn of phrase,  but it instantly makes me think the seller is a precious pretentious twat with an over inflated sense of self, and probably an asking price to match.

I do realise that probably half the people who sell on here will now never deal with me :)

Referring to any guitar as “she”
no offers, right well I won’t make any offers then, your selling something second hand, there has to be some discussion on price, if you won’t then I ain’t buying.
Referring to any dairy products, how exactly does butter play?

As someone who scans every For Sale thread in our Classifieds my favourites are:
“Up for grabs” - I really hope one of you wants this.
”Rare” - they stopped making these because no one bought them.
”Plays like butter” - I don’t understand the difference between a guitar and a sandwich.
    ”Offers” - over priced.
”Ex- “ - he got rid of it because he didn’t like it.

You just know he's going to produce the key to his cellars from the pocket of his silken smoking jacket (or maybe palm you off with some overpriced tat he scored the week before on eBay).

As above - 'Rare' - its not a long lost treasure its a guitar
'It owes me' - The seller has spent x amount on it, so he feels he should get the same amount back, often used to justify a higher than you would expect asking price. .

'First to see will buy' - I take that as a personal challenge, just makes me want to go and see it, and then NOT buy it.

'Re-listed due to time-wasters' - you took it that badly when the prospective buyer (who may have been the first to see it...) declined to purchase, that you try to make them feel ashamed.

    "Genuine reason for sale".

As opposed to all those guitars being sold because the owner's dog has failed its driving test.

  • When the condition is given as 'new'......but then in the description section phrases like 'nearly new' or 'only used a couple of times'. And when I contact seller to verify item is new.....they reply with something like ' yeah it's new.....only been used a few times in a pet free/smoke free home....and still has original packing/box' !
