What's your polish of choice, specifically for nitro?

I sent to the USA a few years back for some virtuoso and notice that there is an UK dealer for the product now but the price is just a little too OTT....so, what do you swear by?

Up 'till now, I've been using Gibson polish but my bottle  of it is virtually empty. I've bought the Virtuoso Polish and Cleaner. Price didn't seem bad to me, given that bottles of polish usually last a good long time. To be honest, I haven't yet used the Virtuoso stuff, but will do so soon as I've got a secondhand guitar which needs a good clean and polish.

Gibson pump polish, use it on any finish, been using it for years, it's great and smells good.

Another vote for the Gibson here.  Just took delivery of some Crimson polish and I don't like it as much - thinner and not as satisfying to use, although used after the Gibson it works very nicely as a less unctuous finish.

The Crimson fretboard conditioner is superb though.  No more "lemon" oil!

  • I only really had the need to polish one of my guitars, it was a bit hazy.  I use detailer regularly and wax every six months or so, that keeps 'em to a showroom standard for me.

Virtuoso, it’s brilliant. First tried it on a ‘67 335 that had a very hazy finish. I had tried everything  to sort it out, but the Virtuoso did the trick. It’s fantastic on VOS Gibson necks too, takes the stickyness out and leaves them slick as whale shit on an ice flow.

Dr Ducks Ax Wax is the only thing I ever use on any guitar.

I've used Fender polish and thought it was very good.

Another option I've used is car waxes, they are exceedingly good nowadays, offer excellent protection and are durable.

If you have a good wax you use on the car then it saves buying two products.

Dunlop 65 is good. Martin pump polish works really well too.

Coincidently I ordered one of the 65s last night - £8.99. There were two versions I went for the platinum one as it wasn’t much dearer and it comes with the microfibre cloth.

  • Brasso.

ok, that was a poor joke, but....
You can remove cup rings and other stains from your furniture by using Brasso.

+1 for Gibson Pump Polish. It also makes a great after shave when you want to impress the ladies (or men, if you prefer).

Yes. I just use Meguiars car wax. It works really well.

    I use meguiars crystal polish.
It’s stage 2 of the 3 stage range from Halfords. Leaves the finest micron thin barrier and shines like a bare arse in the moonlight.
Stage 1 is a cleaner polish with a mild abrasive for working on swirl marks and stage 3 is carnauba wax.
I use stage 1 where needed but I didn’t buy stage 3 as I don’t like leaving a wax coating on the guitar. It tends to scratch easily and then it needs removing before reapplying.

    I think they're about £8 each.

I'm curious why you would need special "guitar" polish?
Considering all spray paint used to be nitro what makes guitars so different that they need a dedicated (overpriced) polish?
