To cut a long story short I needed a 'cheap' guitar to leave at work and play occasionally at lunchtime. I've been meaning to take my old MIJ strat back, but due to a very busy couple of months I haven't been taking lunch breaks so it just hasn't happened.
I was at a bit of a loose end yesterday eve, and it suddenly occurred to me that it would be more fun to knock something up from spares etc. I'd forgotten how much fun that sort of thing is!
So, out comes my old American strat body. It was bare wood and I painted chinese symbols on it many years ago. I have the neck for it as well, a knackered old maple fretboard one, but after some deliberation I decided to go with an old reverse headstock Warmoth that I have had for some years. Fished through a ton of pickguards and went for black with (shock!) a humbucker space at the bridge. I decided that I preferred SSS strats many years ago, so I haven't contemplated an HB strat for a long time.
Rifling through old pickups I found 2 Kinman silent SCs, and a Bare Knuckle Crawler. Sorted! (although the SC pups are bridge and middle)
I'm always dubious about old pots and switches, but I picked out some that 'look' OK. We will have to see how that pans out.
I did most of the soldering, but it was getting late so I will be finishing off tonight. Gotta say that I really enjoyed the whole process, it's not something that I have done for many a year.
I'll stick a picture of it up later tonight if anyone wants to see it.
