Own up. Who has a ELP album?

ELP - Probably seen as the worst dinosaur of the 70s prog era, mercilessly culled by punk. I still have their first 6 or so albums though, and play the triple live album rather a lot.

I've always been a total prog head, but is it embarrassing for 'normal' people to admit they own an ELP album?

Not me, quite liked Pictures at an Exhibition.  Fanfare for the Common Man was good.

Overall noodling keyboards with no guitar left me cold.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I tried them out with Trilogy. Didn’t get on with them at all. Great musicians, but the keyboard sound was just too dated for me.

I bought Brain Salad Surgery on vinyl when it came out. I remember that the record itself was very thin (the petrol crisis at the time) and, as a result, audio quality was very poor. I also had the free 7" flexi-disc that was given away with one of the music rags (NME?)

Also bought Pictures at an Exhibition, and "Works" later on.

Not so keen on them now, though.

No longer have a recording, but I was part of the audience cheering on the live Pictures from an Exhibition, in Newcastle City Hall.

Fantastic Damage & his solo albums are all superb.

I still think the best thing he has worked on is  Cannibal Ox - Cold Vein.

And ironically enough, the RJD2 remix of the F Word was even better

Deadringer is a great album as well.  I've not really enjoyed any of his albums as much as his first.

Definitive Jux for a while near enough every release was pure magic, eg Labor Days, Cold Vein, Fantastic Damage, RJD2.  Maybe nostalgia kicking in but it was a great time for hiphop too, other labels Rhymesayers, Anticon etc were all putting out great records (some of them still are)

I queued (remember those days?) outside Louis Berg's Record Store in Sunderland on the day of release of the first ELP album.

By mercilessly culled, I presume you mean outsold all the punk bands off the time?

oh, and I saw Company Flow live. They were incredible.

I certainly bought a few back in the '80s, but haven't listened to any of them for years. I don't think they were ever as bad as they were made out to be, but I just don't connect to them emotionally as well as I do for the many prog albums that I do still regularly listen to.

A friend of mine at school was very into them, so I never owned any of the albums back in the day, I just had cassette copies.

I've now got Brain Salad Surgery on CD - I think it's their best album overall, although I did delete 'Benny The Bouncer' in iTunes... and it does definitely have the best cover!

I did have Tarkus and Pictures At An Exhibition for a while as well, but I didn't feel the couple of highlights in them were worth plodding through the rest of the twaddle - and that's despite Tarkus containing one of my all-time favourite guitar sounds, the reverbed lead tone on 'Battlefield'.
