I'm setting myself 3 musical challenges this year ....

My musical life seems to revolve around pointless noodling to jam tracks most evenings, playing the same old riffs to varying BTs. So I have decided to try and inject some purpose into proceedings. to that end I am intending to try and learn/record three pieces of music.

1) La valse d'Amelie - a piano piece, pretty twiddly fiddly, getting progressively harder in 4 stages but thankfully written in C (I don't do well with sharps & flats!)

2) Stephen Wilson's Regret #9 synth solo. Super cool Adam Holzman synth solo. It is followed by an excellent Guthrie solo that I'd love to learn but it is beyond my reach!

3) Pendragons 'Breaking the spell' one of my very favourite tracks. I plan to record an instrumental version (as I can't sing), playing bass, drums, keyboards and guitars. 9 minutes long, mostly cool emotional guitar soloing. No tab anywhere so I will have to work out everything by ear, including chords (that's a BIG challenge for me!)

Here's the 3 tracks if anyone is interested:

    Sounds like a good idea.
I’ve just decided on a similar plan - there isn’t a lot of challenge in playing most of the gigs I do at the moment so I’m going to start learning Rush tunes - I’ve often joked about finding the right bass player vocalist to do tribute so I should actually learn the songs.  I’m going to attempt a song a week and see how many I can have to a reasonable standard by the end of the year.   Hopefully it’ll lift my playing if I don’t get too frustrated.

Awesome, I love early and mid-period Rush!
