FS Vintage Gibsons (64 SG, 64 345, 53 Les Paul, 54 Les Paul)
What's Hot
Righto - combination of overspending and pending underemployment means a few things need to go.
First one - the Gibson SG Standard I used at the recent jam (not that this puts the price up, just a context!)

This has a wonderful neck, as many 1964 Gibsons do - of course it does instant Angus but it's capable of a lot more than that, the mahogany is wonderfully resonant and you can go from a lovely clean, warm front pickup, through a range of blues tones into out and out rock.
At sometime it had what I believe were Schaller tuners fitted (no prizes for guessing this must have been in the 80s!), there are now period correct tuners fitted and the front of the headstock has been tidied up to remove the 'racoon eye' imprints. At the same time, the nut was replaced.
I've got full pictures of the restoration (done just before I got it) and I'm happy to supply those.
The rear of the headstock is untouched, this is an honest guitar and if you remove the tuners you can see the additional screw holes.
Apart from that, nothing to report - no breaks, all the right parts, case, candy, frets - and an absolutely wonderful neck from what many consider to be the best year of the SG.
Has never been refretted, if that's important to you.
Comes with a used but good condition for age (and functional) original case, and some case candy - including price list from 64 and bridge instruction manual
Any questions please ask, more pictures on request
I've got these advertised elsewhere, out of respect/lack of hassle I'll post my base price for the forum - £8950 ppg or bank transfer/cash + shipping

This is a great player grade 345 from one of the best years in terms of neck carve and playability.
Apart from a tiny bit of wear on the top edge (completely normal play wear) the following takes it away from investment grade:
1. Repro pickup covers
2. Repro stop tail
3. I believe the tuners are original - but they could be repro, the tips definitely are
4. There is a small amount of overspray on the back of the neck and headstock but there is no significant wear and no break, likely this was done just for presentation.
Additionally, I have converted it to 335 spec using a CTS/Vintage Taper professionally made loom (From SixStringSupplies) - this has completely opened up the guitar and it sings.
I will of course include the complete vintage loom with original pots and Varitone, and if you wanted to re-install this it's an easy job with just a couple of wires to solder.
This really is a wonderful, flexible guitar with a neck to die for - with the bonus of modern usable functionality and a good condition, original era case.
So basically a 64 ES-335 for a lot less money

The Guitar
This is a late 52/early 53 Gibson Les Paul conversion, carried out by Yuuki McClure (PlayerGradeVintage) who has a growing reputation for top quality conversions here in the UK.
Originally this was a stripped Les Paul, with a Bigsby fitted and a painted dragon on the top (see pictures).
Yuuki has completely refinished the guitar and turned it into a wonderful burst for a small fraction of the price of a real one.I've included pictures from Yuuki's feed showing the progress.
Please Read Below This is Unusual
Normally when these conversions are done, in order to get the correct neck angle the neck has to be steamed out and reset, this of course changes the whole history of the guitar.
Luckily this neck had just enough angle on it so that the neck could stay - this neck has not been out of the guitar since it left the factory 66+ years ago, in order to make this happen Yuuki shaved slightly the pickup rings and bridge - it all works very well and you'd never know unless you really looked closely.
To summarise:
1. Original 52/3 Gibson Les Paul body, no breaks or cracks
2. Tuners are 1960 Gibson ones, function great and look cool
3. Parts are a mixture of repro (pick guard, switch tip, knobs) and later Gibson parts (loom, rings)
4. Comes with the original case, battered as you'd expect but it does work!
5. Fitted with Bareknuckle PAF Mules, with really lovely looking aged covers and period correct braided wire - this is a £300 pickup set and sounds absolutely wonderful and in keeping with the guitar
Additionally the guitar has been refretted by Feline Guitars in Croydon, including the fitting of an unbleached bone nut.
This really is as close as you can get without either spending much more money, it is not a copy - it's a legitimate 1950s Gibson Les Paul, with the fabric of the guitar unchanged since it left the factory, and it really does sound like it.
Plus look at the top carve - looks so much better than modern repros.
I've included a few pics from Yuuki's Instagram feed when it was being worked on

Very, very good condition Gibson Les Paul Goldtop from 1954.
In clean, original condition - only the following has been changed:
1. Re-fretted and nut changed (not a surprise given the age!)
2. Jack socket plate is repro (again not a surprise as they crack)
3. Possible repro tuner tips (possible, it's been checked over by two dealers - one thought they were, one thought they weren't) - the tuners are original, this is just the tips
4. The current bridge and studs are slightly later Gibson ones, again a common mod - since the original bridge can crack. The original bridge (which has not cracked) and studs are pictured and included in the sale
5. At some point both control cavities have been painted with graphite paint, see pictures.
Apart from the above - all is as it should be, this is a very, very good condition (have I said that enough? ;o) ) instrument, sounds great and absolutely impresses everyone who plays it.
The P90s sound huge, remember PAFs were made to sound like P90s but without the hum, this is a full fat Les Paul in all it's glory.
Included in the sale is a 5 latch case, absolutely period correct with it's arch top and in excellent, functional condition - amazingly these sell for £2500+ on their own (don't judge me!)
Original knobs, pickups, case, bridge and correct Sprague waxy capacitors - pretty impressive given the age
Forum price £18,500 firm ppg, bank transfer/cash + shipping
edit... I should’ve tried harder at School
It'd be great if Darren @Danielsguitars could have a look at the guitars before they go. I'm sure as a guitar maker he'd be interested to see the guitars up close.
Some of these are going to fund a new purchase (56 Esquire)
Others are due to I’ve just found out I’m unemployed from the end of next month. Not through choice I’ve been freelance the last three years and that’s coming to an end.
So this is a preemptive sale to raise money before I need to raise money if that makes sense.
If it turns out I’ve pressed the button too soon on selling then I’ll use this to fund a business idea I’ve had for a few years - case of who dares Rodney.
I can talk about all the guitars and provide any details people need.
Oh and don’t worry - I’ve still got a few more
