ignore the valve requirement and get a BluesCube Hot, or a TM60
Well without valves, things also always come back to the Katana 50...

Which is probably the answer to the OPs question in all honesty, given as he was talking about lugging things around, if we re-phrase the question as...

"I want a non-shitty amp to carry around to lessons and stuff without doing my back in"

180 quid gets you a Katana 50 that does everything pretty well.
The Katana is like the spanish inquisition, I know its coming in a thread I just don't know when : )

Ed is of course right, would be a solution.

Or a THR - just to complete the circle!

Laney Cub 12R - okay it's more than 5W, but it has a 1W input, and is small, light and sounds fantastic.

My old Hayden Petite is a perfect home valve combo, impeccable  build quality and great flexibility, they do pop up now and again

I'm using a 1964 Centurion Hi-Fi Five - which is neither, to be accurate! It's a roughly 4W 2x8" combo - but I suspect that isn't the answer to the question really...

I've also made a simple L-Pad attenuator for it as it's too loud to crank up in the house otherwise.

A (Silverface) Champ. But judging by the results of your research, I don't think one would work for you.

I think the Pro Jr sounded best out of those amps.

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

The Blackstar somehow didn’t sound like a real amp to me and that fits with my experience of playing their small HT amps, I really hated the feel.

Pro Junior all day out of that lot, but it’s 15W and really has no business being included.  Rift shouldn’t be there either for obvious reasons.

My takeaway is that small amps are shit.

EDIT: exception could be the 1 watt Marshall JTM’s but then they’re damn expensive too.

I am using a Danlifier. It's like a Fender Champ with a twist

    8" Celestion 8-15 speaker.
