I seem to be spending as much time modding as I do playing these days so a ‘luthier friendly’ workbench is required before I solder anymore carpet in the house

Would need to be delivered as I don’t drive anymore or able to collect within Cheshire or a reasonable distance outside of. 

Whats out there?

I realise you might have something pretty specific in mind, that you fix to the floor & a wall & I guess that ultimately that's the best you can get. But, as a, possibly cheaper & a portable alternative I'd suggest a couple of these-

I posted about them in Emp's tool acquisitiveness thread too, so it might look like I have a financial interest. I don't & I don't think they're the answer to everyone's requirements, they just made life a lot easier for me. I use them for all my guitar stuff & other less fun things.

Apart from being able to put them away, you can also adjust the height, so you can sit at them if you want.

You can obviously bolt a vice to the board and the 2x4. I've just used one with a built in G clamp so far.

For a table top a sheet of good marine ply & a 4x2 will do the job, or even better a sheet of ply with sheet of pine board on top.

As you probably know, ply can be nasty splintery stuff, but you can run a router round the edges, or just sand them, then give the sheet a couple of coats of water based varnish.

I've got ply & other wood from MKM delivered at LESS than the price you pay if you collect. Don't know if it's still like that.

And if you get the trestles first you can cut it to size on them....
