Smokey Amp silliness

I had a sort out at the weekend and rediscovered my Smokey Amp. I've had it for years, it's an actual cigarette packet with a 1-watt amp built in. With the guitar's volume backed off it's quite a nice-sounding clean amp (and I've used it as a speaker for a multi-fx unit in the garden before, too). If you turn the guitar up though, it distorts in a really harsh way. If you put that into the front of a dirty amp though, it sounds monstrous!
