Paul Gilbert, worth seeing?

Paul Gilbert will be playing in my home town in September and I was wondering if he is worth going to see? I only know his work in Mr Big but don't know any of his solo stuff. If anyone has seen him live would you recommend seeing him? Many thanks in advance.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

    Double yes.

Even Mrs. L insists on Paul Gilbert tickets and she is very much in the 'doesn't really care for guitar wankery' camp.

Yep. Apart from being a monster player, he's funny, engaging, intelligent, articulate and writes decent songs with good hooks and poppy stuff, too. This is what I've got from his clinics.

  • I saw him at Highbury and Islington and he really gave it his all - I was super impressed. I imagine like most of these semi-nostalgia based gigs, he played a good selection of his back catalogue while sprinkling in the new stuff (Which at the time was on Fuzz Universe)

It's not a self-indulgent shred fest unlike others of that ilk.. definitely more song based
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

    Triple yes.

Saw him with the Mrs in Reading last time he was here; the intro tune lasted about 50 minutes, and consisted of a medley of all his big hits and riffs - including THAT drill solo, four handed playing etc.

Was stupendously good, and very entertaining. Already booked our tix to see him in Reading again :)

He even does a cover of the Spice Girls, how rock 'n roll is that

If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

I’m thinking of going to the reading show, just out of curiosity ... not familiar with his stuff at all though.

  • Saw him twice, once with his solo band, once with Mr Big, incredible shows both times, I would say absolutely yes.
Even my wife enjoyed the Mr Big show and she’s not at all into guitar heavy music.

Er.... I'm the only vip at Reading, so he's turning it into a private guitar lesson!

    Will report back shortly....
