Please recommend me some heavy music

Inspired by the Metallica/Megadeth discussion in the Guitar subforum, can anyone recommend me some heavy music. No really stupid Cookie Monster vox, I cannot get over it. It makes me laugh and embarrasses me at the same time.

I know the default awesome heavy band with great vocals is Tool. Skip that recommendation, I’m already an Uber-fan. Tool, Pantera and Deftones are the only metal (if that’s what they are) bands I have consistently listened to for 20 years.
Have heard one record by Trivium (Shogun) and liked it overall. Worth looking at the rest of their stuff? Quite like Meshuggah but struggle with the vocals.

I also can't stand cookie monster vocals but am similarly a huge fan of the Deftones.

The absolute best two "heavy" records I've bought in the last few years are Emperor of Sand by Mastodon and Mariner by Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas.

Both are very good indeed, the latter in particular is frankly astounding.

I know you’ll all probably take the piss but I’m gonna say it anyway...
I was amazed how heavy Quo were on the Frantic Four tour, give the album a play on full blast!
I love heavy stuff but maybe there’s different types of heavy!
Hopefully this won’t overshadow the Joe Brand controversy but as I said feel free to take the piss!

My oldest son listens to brain crunching metal, too much noise for me in my old age. One band of his I do like though is five finger Death Punch, they are more melodic than a lot of heavy bands.

If you want old school heavy, then I suggest a band called ‘Stray’.

    Holy Terror - Mind Wars

An Album I almost wore out to see-through in the late 1980's

    Most notably the songs:

    Immoral Wasteland
    A Fools Gold/ Terminal Humour/Mind Wars
    Damned by Judges
    No Resurrection

The whole album is only 39 mins long, it'll take you on a ride. The Album is on Youtube.

Keith Deen, sure had a powerful voice. Sadly he died in 2012 aged 56.
Only a Fool Would Say That.
