HX Stomp auto wah help needed

What's Hot

I'm having a ball with my HX Stomp going direct to the PA but I'm struggling with getting a decent auto wah effect.

I've been using the mutant filter but I'm not entirely happy with the sound and it's getting lost/cutting off in the mix. I looked at the MU-Tron III user manual and tried some of the suggested settings from that, but still find it lacking in the wah department.

Does anyone have any tried and tested  settings that could help or maybe I should be using a different effect block?

I only need the effect on 3 songs in the entire set so I'm not wanting to bring/hook up a dedicated pedal.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I use it in one song.
Can't remember the effect I use or the settings.
I'll check it when I get home and post it.

Have a look in the legacy section. Some of those might suit you better.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

Thank you @Jota  ;- Digital Igloo (via TGP) guided me to the autofilter which is the block I should have been using. I tried it last night and it was much better.

If you're using this block I'd appreciate knowing your settings to give me a jump off point.

    I saw that.
Can't be sure but I think I tryed it and opted for a different effect.
Hope to have some time later in the day to check that out.

    So, I'm using the Throbber

Speed 1/4 (it's set for the tempo of the song)
    Freq. 50%
    Q. 47%
    Wave Triangle
    Mix 70%
Level -17dB because I use it during a quiet part and it can get loud

    Hope it helps.

Tron up is actually worth checking out too in the legacy settings

i have the same issue since moving from Fractal to HX. I've tried all the HX ones and none sound like a decent wah, they're all too filtery.
What i did on the FX8 was to have an LFO acting as a wah pedal, moving back and forth, then applying it to a proper wah model. It worked perfectly and sounded ace.
This is the main disappointment in Helix for me - Line 6 have been asked to add an LFO loads of times but continue to ignore it...

Oh, is that what OP was looking for? For me that's a dynamic wah.
Auto-wah would be the one that cycles between heel and toe at a certain rate. That's what I use the Throbber on the HX Stomp for.

I think so? That's what I think of as an Auto-wah - like a Mad Professor Snow White? Could be wrong!

Agree with @JohnCordy - that sounds like an auto-wah to me

@eog I think @jota has a good point though - from a keyboards perspective (and also on the Kemper) these kind of settings are labelled "touch" or "dynamic".

IRC, in the BOSS MS-3, auto-wah was the cycling thing and dynamic wah was the one that reacted to the picking attack so that's where I got the names from.
But I believe you can use the name for the dynamic one too.

Thanks @JohnCordy for the video. Very helpful.

    I will be trying the Tron-up, as well as the Throbber settings suggested by @Jota. ;

I'm  wanting the effect that reacts to my picking and simulates the toe to heel sweep of my cry baby.

The Autofilter has got me the closest to the sound in my head so far, but I need to dig in to all the parameters a bit more to get it sounding how I want.

Forget my posts. They're for a different kind of effect. You won't get no reacting to your picking with those settings on the Throbber.
John's video is spot on for that kind of thing.
