I'll be playing a short set with Jakob Deist at the Natural History Museum. :)

  • Nice one.

Shame I am so far away because I would have liked to see that gig.
    :((

Mind you that applies to most of the meetups and forum member gigs down South.

  • You didn't miss much to be honest, Johnny, but thanks for the thought. :)

    The "stage" where we played...

Ooh the stage is awesome and epic, I love the NHM and visit whenever down that way. Been a few years now though.

There was an excellent 6 part doccie about it showing all the hidden stuff not seen very often including a lot of Darwin et al samples etc.

I do hope you got a behind the scenes tour.

Shame it didn't seem to be a satisfying gig though the guys stuff sounded nice and mellow, plus I am sure you would have enhanced his material too.

Was it poor audience or just one of those gigs with gremlins?

  • The audience was ok, the sound was quite bad unless you stood next to a speaker (not too surprising considering the size and ceiling height of the room).
It was also much too short (3 songs), and I couldn't hear myself very well.
The latter kind of spoiled it for me as I was improvising a lot and can't do it very well if I can't hear what I'm doing. :D

That looks a little bit nicer than your usual gig outside Chelmsford bus station ;)

Seriously - that must have been a pretty cool place to play, even if the sound system wasn't 100%?

  • Oh well hopefully your next gig will be a better experience.

The size of the place means an average pub PA would struggle plus the venue looks like it would have had a cavernous reverb (unless it as dead as a dodo). Did you see one BTW?
    :D

My last gig was at 12:00pm today, at the Brownstock festival, opening the Treehouse stage with my new band (Jakob Deist). :P
Because his amp crapped out midway throught the second song I had to cover for both guitar parts on most of the songs. :D
I really like the sound of X-Traveller into a HD500 and the return of a Mustang III by the way. :)

Cavernous indeed, and no, no Dodo. :)

  • If front of house was at the bottom of the steps delayed back to the players shouldn't have been too bad for the audience bit of a mare for the musicians though however nice gig to play
