For those of the Gibson school this looks good.

Maybe not the quality of the Faber kit but half the price.
I think that was the one @Iamf68 did and he rated it...

    This could be fun

I think it'd be hard to beat Thomann on prices
    £53 for a Tele kit.
For the same money you can get one already built for you
    and mod it.
    This'd be even better.

Sounds fun, those Harley Bentons are ridiculously cheap. I quite like the idea of building from a kit, too, though.

Considering how cheap those kits are on Thomann, maybe it could be a Harley Benton kit of your choice contest.

Less than a month's beer money for a thomann kit? Wow, I'll have one each of V, LP, and SG. But I'd like to build a V most, because I don't already have a V.

So would the competition be about how well you built your kit, or about how imaginatively you pimped it? Or separate prizes for each category?
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

All to be thought about, if there was enough interest in the idea to make it worthwhile doing the detail thinking!

I'm not sure that we should aim for the cheapest kits, as the quality will clearly be very compromised,  we do have a couple of sampler kits on their way atm, with the intention of assessing them as viable bases for the competition.

Why not just let each person decide what kit to build, the different prices of kit would work well if there's a set budget. A cheap kit would mean more to spend on pimping it but a more expensive kit may be better out of the box but mean corners being cut on finish or using the pickups that come with the kit.

I'd be looking to buy in bulk from the manufacturer.

That way we could make a little margin for forum funds to pay for the prize guitar, we'd be comparing like-with-like in terms of the competition judging, and problems encountered by one are likely to be encountered by others too - so easier to discuss and solve within the community.

Plus I think the PR angle is more interesting, so easier to generate some interest, publicity and profile for the forum.

I'd vote Junior too but lots of people like Teles so we may need 2 categories?

I guess we could cope with two different (fairly simple) designs?

    Jaguar for the win
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'd also go for that - in fact, pretty much anything that isn't 'yet another Strat-alike'!

    I'm thinking

    1.  335
    2.  LP Jr

    Maybe a third option?

And then putting it to the forum vote.

I think a Tele has to be in, it will be the easy option for the first-timers.
