NRFGD (re-fin)

I picked up a very nice MIJ Charvel Strathed from @iseverynamegone a few months ago. The only problem, with apologies to its former owner, was that it was brown. Really brown.  Now I know that brown can be funky in certain fashion circles, but it has no place on a guitar unless it bursts to a much lighter shade of tobacco-y goodness.  So I thought it'd be a good idea to refin it.  I have form in this area and it ain't good so I asked @Iamf68 if he'd redo it for me (for a modest fee). 

 

He did.  I love it.

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that the neck 'bucker has gone.  It was replaced with a pair of Stone Tones from our very own Ash at Oil City.  I'd love to tell you how they sound, but something went wonky with the wiring and it needs looking at.  The irony is that I took it to a tech in the first place because I have a morbid fear of wires and soldering irons, and it appears that he might have had a senior moment... Gah. In fairness I was so desperate to have it back quickly that he did it in super quick order.    

Anyhoo, the sonic blue, cream pearl guard and black bits might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I bloody love it...

I'd have put a non pearly guard on it, but other than that good GAS.

How are you finding the Cornford? I remember enjoying trying one years ago but haven't had hands on one since.

The nut is like a roller nut and the trem is a Gotoh unit and is just fab (when set up properly, which it now isn't.  I guess it's very similar to the Wilko 2-point thingummy.

It's great Mike, but unremarkable at living room volumes.  It might only be 5-8 watts but it's pretty loud.  However, when it is loud, it's righteous.  I've been torn ever since I got it: it's so good at volume (if you like that AC/DC crunch, which I do), but the V30 is a pain at low vols.  I have a G12H-30 to try but haven't got around to fitting it.  Still aching for a DRRI or a supersonic 22 if I'm honest.  Ongoing GAS.
