I don’t normally post photos of the builds I do on this forum but as LPJ DC’s seem to be one of the most talked about guitars on the forum. I thought some of you might like to see what I made last week and the start of next weeks work.

Next week I'll be making three LPJ single cut guitars two made from Idigbo with flame Walnut caps and one from Mahogany with a flame maple cap.

I do hope it's ridiculously expensive, so I can justify not having to buy one....

Given the quality that you'd be getting, it wouldn't be.

I don’t think they are expensive the LPJ DC’s and single cut are £405 fretted as you see them in the photo. Un fretted £320 and if I have any “B” grades around £250. The LPJ single cuts with the Walnut caps do cost a lot more. There is no set price on them as it depends on the cost of the cap also two are having banding on the body, neck and head stock plus all three are fully chamber so they could be between £500 and £600. This type of LPJ are made to order only so these are already sold. The single cut all mahogany LPJ is for sale but all the LPJ DC’s are sold.

I will be making more LPJ DC’s later in the year may be.

Well @JookyChap it might be your lucky day the guy who was having one of the LPJ DC might be having some think different. He's now played one of my Mahogany T/C thats really a LPJ but looks like a T/C but with two P90's. The LPJ DC that might be for sale is the second one in from the left it is a "B" grade so £250 inc P&P.

Its a "B" because I had to fill the post holes and move the pickup forward you can see this in the photo.

Out of curiosity, does the fretting in your guitars need any additional work (fret edges, etc) and do you install nuts as well?

  • On mine, the fret ends were perfect. It wpuld be impossible to have them all filed to the best height as that needs the guitar to be strung up, or under tension, to do. They are perfectly fretted though, and not sharp at all. Can't ask any more than that :) I'm sure a tech can add more detail, but you won't see a guitar fretted better as new. Stuff like fall away is for a tech though, on a completed guitar.

I do not supply a nut but the fret are fully dress including fret ends but they might need a bit more work on then once the guitar has the strings fitted.

Finished! Grahame's craftmanship is excellent, neck angle and bridge position are both perfect.

Thanks Grahame. I'm a big fan of the Gibson Les Paul Junior and mostly bought the guitar to demo the finishing process as a change from Telecasters!
