Correctly site the trem on a jazzmaster

Without any predrilled holes in the body it's a got to get it right first time job"

Is it easier than it looks or should I just pay someone to get it right!!

There are plans available on the internet for most guitars. I found a plan for fitting an FR trem, printed it onto an A3 sheet (double checked measurements to be sure it hadn't printed slightly out of scale), marked up the body, drilled and routed. Perfect!

I'll see if I can find a useful link later if I remember

I'm guessing the term cavity is cut? If so, you can't go too far wrong. Just make sure it's in line with the fretboard by stringing up both e strings then mark and drill.

That's what I was planning - seems like a doddle as I've been on the sauce since 11am

The hole has been routed - Just need to screw the bugger down

Maybe I should leave it till I'm sober

    Definitely leave it!

If I was going to build/spec a JM I'd have it like the classic players with the trem nearer the bridge. I still want a Squier Jazzmaster.

Yeah, do it sober. I fitted a Bigsby when still half cut and it was a bit squint when I sobered up!

This is th eway I do it.

    1. Find the centre of the body, I do this by talking a line from  neck pocket or even heel of the neck.

    2. Take a straight edge & draw in pencil from your centre mark (Say at the neck heel) a line down past where the trem is to go

    3. Find centre of the trem put a pencil mark on front & back edge.

    4. Now line up all the lines & mark the screw holes & you're done
