Teaching a 10 year old

ToneControlToneControl Frets: 11873

my daughter wants to learn

I've lent her a nice old Korean Epi LP, and a tiny orange battery amp

I am wondering what books to get - to be able to help her - since I am not certain what order to cover things in, or what pace to go at,

I remembered that there are a lot of PC-based things that could help

I have an IK Stealthpedal spare, with Amplitube LE bundled, perhaps I should put that on her laptop, are there any training software packages? I remember the old Guitarport things had some training built in

all ideas welcome

10 year olds last 30 mins max then want to check their FBook...

Also - whatever you think is cool and essential to learn they won't...

Is no chance of them interacting online/digitally - they like real world knobs and bling...! ...for 5 mins anyway...

I find faint discouragement works best.

Seriously, small amounts of information work best.
If she takes to it then cool, but statistically it is unlikely.

  • Year 5/6?
Buy a Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 1 book. Teach her an E chord and play just that at the appropriate time along to the cd with one of the songs ( 500 miles , boots are made for walking) plus add in a little something of the current zeitgeist ( popular at mo for 10 year old girls are 'Happy ' by Pharrel Willams ( take it down a semitone) and anything One Direction )
Remember playing guitar ( let alone reading music ) is very difficult to begin with. If you've forgotten , try learning with her but using your other hand.
