Looks interesting, if it's a lightweight LP with a tweaked sound it could do very well

    Hand in pocket time then!

Then see how long it takes before you're 'much sucking of teeth it's not a ES 335 much sucking of teeth it's not a Les Paul less sucking of teeth "Off to the Classified's with you Beast Guitar!"'.

I jest. Horses for courses and all that.

As an owner of a CS336 (small 335 shaped with hollow, but solid wood LP-type construction) I don't really get it myself.

Without the f-holes it'd look fine, i guess.

ES sound with the pickup switch in the right place? YES PLEEZ!
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)

    Like it!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

the fact that it weighs 6lbs is going to appeal to a lot of LP guys who have trouble with the weight

  • Love it, but I prefer the hollow prs guitars I've seen for looks.

Still, it suits the guitar I think.

The 2014 Les Paul Supreme also has f-holes.

This should come as no surprise, since the vast majority of Les Pauls are "weight relieved" in some form or another anyway (Traditionals being the exception), so adding F-holes isn't actually that much work.

Weight relieving over the past few years ranges from this:

9-hole weight relief used on standards (and standards, classics and studios pre 2007):
    image

Custom shop Class 5's used similar but with 17 holes instead of 9!

Les Paul Ultima, Elegant, and Chambered Reissues have this:

    image

And the Supreme uses something similar, with the centre block running down more of the length of the guitar

Les Paul Standards from 2007 until they introduced the Traditional and new Standards (2008 I think?) looked like this (on the left, the right is a BFG):
    image

and the current Les Paul Standard Premium uses this:

So Gibson is already tooled up for making semi-hollow Les Pauls, as they've been doing it for years without telling anyone.

Perhaps the fact that they still weigh in at around 9lbs quite regularly should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the mahogany they have access to..

  • I prefer this.

The s2 hollow single cut looks nice, too, if they do it in plain black... Yummy.

my 05 Classic is weight relieved apparently and it's still almost 10lbs...sounds amazing, plays amazing but is heavy after 3 hours standing up...

just ordered one of those Mono straps to see if makes any difference.

i really like all the PRS Singlecuts, it's a really fantastic design (probably why Gibson didn't take kindly to it!)

I just think it looks wrong, the F holes are too big for the body, if they had scaled them down accordingly, it would have looked better.

There is an essential 'rightness' about so many of Gibson's classic designs - L5s, Les Pauls, 335s - all things of beauty.

Yet the modern Gibson company seems to have a gift for drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Bunging a random f hole on a Les Paul, without thought to its size IS just lazy design.

Is suspect some focus group said 'yes' to the idea of a semi-hollow LP, so they rushed one out immediately.

Given they already make 336s, 339s and Midtowns, I'm struggling to see the need for this.
