Recommend me a guitar

We all have our likes and dislikes, often based on limited knowledge (aka prejudice). My experience is certainly limited, so I'm looking for your suggestions.

For the first time in years I'm planning a new guitar (as opposed to seeing one and thinking "I'll have that"). As the set list changes to accommodate our singers' tastes I "need" to fill the sonic hole between a McCarty and a Parker Fly.  Something with a bit more mid range focused would fit the bill. That's quite a wide target area. All my current guitars at fixed bridge with tappable humbuckers. Whilst I'd like to maintain the pickup flexibility, it really is time I learned to use a whammy bar. If I followed my usual behaviour then I'd probably end up with something like a PRS Custom 22 or 408. What am I missing?

Being a tele nutter (and in the spirit of the forum...) I recommend a tele, with a bigsby.

Seriously though A good tele rules :)

Take yourself off to a decent shop, with plenty of time, and try a few.

Don't buy anything there and then, but use the test drives to refine your thinking about what it is you need.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

    That's sound advice.
It's hard to know exactly what will fill that midrange space, a tele could well fit the bill, or an SG, particularly with 57 classic pickups (very particular midrange sound on those, goes well with SG's), or indeed something with P90's

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

... as is that. However I have wondered about a Tele. The simplicity appeals to me. I did think of assembling one as part of the latest Challenge, but time is a bit short at the moment.

As if any of us needs an excuse. At some point that's what I'll do, but if I did it this week I'd be focused On the Custom 22 / 408 route
