Correct Bigsby for ES335?

What's Hot

Is it the B700?

And is it available in Chrome?

Anyone got one to sell? Or best place to buy?

The correct Bigsby is NO Bigsby .....  If you want one get a Gretsch where they belong.

My vintage 335 had a factory fitted Bigsby - it got in the way of the controls, made the guitar more tail-heavy when sitting down and didn't work well withe the sharp-edged saddles on a Tunomatic.

They are an interesting curio but have no place on a 335....

If he wants a Bigsby on his guitar then let him have a Bigsby on his guitar.

If you don't want one on your guitar then don't fit one on your guitar.

Anyway, it's the Tokai version. I tried one- superb and blew me away in comparison to the Epi Sheri and Dot

Isn't the B7 the "crafted by highly skilled American artisans on US soil" and the B70/B700 a poor imitation made "overseas" ;-)

It is, but nothing wrong with the 'licensed' ones, the only major difference is a bush instead of a bearing. But since this lives a piss-easy life as far as bearings go it doesn't matter, and if anything feels smoother. Dimensions are different too.

Personally I don't like tension bar Bigsbys and would be looking at a B6, if the tail bracket will fit on there. People fit them on 2" deep Gretsches so should be OK. Less break angle, more wolf tones, but I've not had a problem with similar things and a B3. Also avoids drilling into the top.

Another option might be a Vibramate and a B5? Not sure.

I really don't get the hatred and anger that surfaces everyone someone posts anything to do with Bigsbys. Some people like them, some don't.....so what.

It is a mod that once made can never be invisibly reversed, unless the guitar is refinished in a solid colour (and no classic '335 finishes are solid colours).

As someone who's actually had one on a 335, I'm at least qualified to advise the OP what issues with one he's likely to encounter - before someone starts drilling holes....

I'm not saying he can't - I'm saying I wouldn't. I'm not trying to stop anyone from doing anything - it's up to them. But I thought the purpose of this place was to share our experience?

My experience is it's a bad idea...

I love the Bigsby B7 on my Casino and recommend the idea wholeheartedly.

Just in case you think I was refering to your posts (I wasn't)  I totally agree. Giving real life advice based on your experiences is absolutely what this place should be about.

I don't get the hatred for bigsbys either. I hate floyds but I don't make it a mission to post my hatred in every thread they turn up in. I've had 2 bigsby equipped guitars, a gretsch and a les Paul and loved them.

But a Casino is in effect an archtop with a floating bridge - much more appropriate for a Bigsby than a 335 with a fixed bridge.

Though esthetically Bigsbys belong on Gretsch guitars as I said earlier ^^^^^^ ;)

I put a Bigsby on my Sheraton, it was great, and my Les Paul, that was great too.

Nothing that wrong with a Bigs and fixed bridge, though I do like a roller instead of a TOM. But the top nut's the main source of problems. If there's a sideways string break as well I make a nut with angled and flared slots in that direction. Sometimes takes a while to get them working nicely, and needs regular lubing still.

We have 5 Bigsbys in the house at the mo' on archtops with floating or pinned bridges, with fixed TOM-types, and an LP.
