Just seen The Martian today. It really is rather good. Word to the wise, pee before you watch it. It's two hours and forty five minutes long.

Not long enough! I also saw it- simply amazing!

I was dying for a pee about an hour and a half into the film. But really didn't want to miss anything, after the credits rolled I bolted to the gents though!

Also picked up a 35 clint eastwood dvd collection for £25! :D
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Made two bathroom visits during The Martian, but it's long enough and Hollywood enough that you won't be lost in the plot when you come back. Really enjoyed the film.

I'd never seeen it before, so watched Captain Corelli's Mandolin the other night. Nicholas Cage must be the most overrated actor on the face of the planet, and I suspect he was taught his ridiculous Italian accent by the same person that trained Dick Van Dyke in Cockney. To be honest the film did have it's moments but took a long time to get going.

Only 5/10 I'm afraid. I suspect the book must be rather better.

(As an aside, when the film first came out I recall some Welsh comedian referring to it as 'Captain Cor-ef-phley's Mandolin' and I still can't get that bloody pronounciation out of my head.)

"Under the Skin" with Scarlett Johannson.

Utter and complete tosh, despite Scarlett's astonishing derriere.

Kajaki. A true stody about a group of British soldiers who wander into a minefield in Afghanistan. They only discover this when one of their number steps on a mine and gets his leg blown off. The rest of the film is pretty much about how they and the medic cope with the situation. Very graphic, very tense. Can't say much more without spoilers but suffice to say it was gripping. 9/10.

I'm glad someone else has seen that. It's one of those films that I blurt out every time someone asks for a decent film to watch. For some reason it gets overlooked in favour of some lower quality American faintly based on a true story war film.
    Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.....

Is that the one about the plane designer? I found it a bit odd.

I watched Mistaken For Strangers last night. I saw it listed on Film 4 and set it to record just because it was a documentary about The National, one of my favourite bands. It was made by the singer's younger brother and it was actually really funny and touching. I'd recommend it even if you're not a fan of the band.

Weird - I was sure I edited to change to 8/10 rather than quoted. Early onset Alzheimers?

Just had the first full weekend of the London Film Festival.  I've seen 9 films so far but highlights would be Ben Wheatley's High-Rise and a Korean film called The Assassination which was brilliant.
