Them Crooked Vultures would be my top spot, some of JPJ's lines are awesome.

Otherwise, my de facto choice of the Foo's would take top spot.

The Foos is a good choice as in all the bands I listed they would get worse as a result of my playing bass for them wheres I'm confident I'm a better bass player than Nate Mendel.
Really? Do you actually listen to the lines he plays? I think he's pretty underrated and does well to squeeze lots of melody, interesting runs and sometimes not-the-obvious note choices in behind that wall of guitars.

Go and listen to The Colour And The Shape and write "I must try harder" 100 times on the blackboard.

  • Tower Of Power - Love Roccos playing and I have masses of their albums.
    Chic - Goes without saying
Funk Brothers - Jamerson has had such an influence on modern players.
Weather Report - Well any of Joe Zawinul's projects. Check out Joe Zawinuls Patriots on YouTube with Richard Bona on Bass. Awesome.
The Yellowjackets - Love a bit of Jazz/Fusion and Jimmy H does it so well.

  • I would love to play on something like x-factor or strictly or something like that. Not because i love that kind of rubbish but i reckon it would be a tonne of fun playing all that different music every week! (and getting paid a packet for it!)
