Interesting article and what struck me most was the fact that a 25 year old was "at the head of" which I took to be "in charge of" 30.000 men and ultimately had their lives in his hands.  *cough* at the head of a column of 30,000 troops with
his unit i.e. he was was in front of a load of other units that he wasn't in charge of.

Still that aside, I think I'd rather have WW3 than Yellow or You're Beautiful or that umbrella thing

I've got a great idea, since he's so good at stopping wars...

...why don't we send him to Syria?

    :)

He could threaten to sing at them.

    Made I think of this

On thinking about it the title of the BBC article isn't accurate.

He didn't prevent it... he didn't Potentially Maybe Start WW3.

The cold war was over, this could easily have been a terrible international incident - but most likely cause a lot of politicking and arguing, Title makes it sound like he had to order his unit to defend the russians from the rest of the 30,000 troops in a Thermopolae style act of last ditch defiance

You're quite right, and this is something that always annoys me about that little warning you see on the back of amps - "to prevent the risk of fire and electric shock, always replace fuse with same type and rating" or something like that. It doesn't *prevent the risk* of fire or shock at all, it just avoids creating it with that particular appliance! [/pedant]

There is quite a bit more to the whole Pristina airfield near-spat that won't ever make the news.
