New Singer

What's Hot
I have a feeling that our singer's going to jack it in soon - most unfortunate!

For those that have trodden this path, what were the best / worst places to advertise for rock covers singers? If anyone knows any guys looking - let me know!

I've just finished a round of recruiting a singer and it was as expected a total ballache (think we've found the right person mind)

We did all the usuals: Word of mouth, Bandmix, Forming Bands, Gum Tree.

The only slightly off piste idea I had that bore fruit was contacting singing teachers to ask if any of their students were looking for work.

You have to be a bit wary of Karaoke singers.

They often have no musicality and horrible timing, or at least that's been the case for all the ones I've auditioned.

  • On the flipside for karaoke singers, I do like a bit of rock karaoke myself and would say I had reasonable musicality and timing, but no singing tone whatsoever, so you may trip across different combinations that work.

Otherwise, yes the singing teacher idea is a good one, open mic nights where your band can play as well rather than just trying to poach singers! Socialising there also helps you get to know people as the best singers might not be totally well matched to your band members

Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

My experience with karaoke singers is that they often have poor technique, and have problems singing for a full show without losing their voice.

The best singers I've worked with have all sung regularly in Church; I think the key feature here is that they sing regularly rather than attending Church.
