J&D Luthiers guitars?

FWIW I'm in Australia - so I'm talking in different money to the masses here! ;)

Does anybody know about J&D Luthiers guitars? See, I was just browsing my local Cash Converters. They had a guitar hanger. I could see from the back a beautiful woody colour. The headstock shape looked like a Gibson. I had to rush over to have a look...

What'd I find? Well it wasn't a Gibson but it looked pretty damn close to one! It turned out to be a J&D Luthiers guitars LP Gold Top copy. It had P90s. And to be honest for a knock-off of sorts, it looked pretty good. It was tagged at $139. For a set neck, LP style with P90s, very close to Gibson... it's not all that bad considering the kinds of stuff they usually get in. It was in pretty good nick.

But I don't want to put my money in their hands... There was a couple of problems for example one of the knobs had been replaced with a 'speed' knob instead of honeypots/top hats like the other 3. And there was enough marks on it to dissatisfy my tastes. I want to beat my own guitar up ta!

However, I played it anyway. It's not bad. The P90s are quite nice!

Anyway, after reading this on this site "J&D guitars have always manufactured for some of the worlds finest brands, now made exclusively for Australia under the J&D Luthiers name." (link - http://www.jadeaustralia.com.au/jd.html) I want to know more. Who did they manufacture for? What are they known as in the rest of the world? And what are they worth?
