like the 'functional' look of it. Just wondered if anyone has (had) one?

Always fancied a BFG but never got my hands on one, they were maybe a bit too rough in the finishing department, the LPJ seemed the next step in the design all be it without a p90

Did he ever play one live? I only ever saw him with burst LPs, a 335 or a Strat.
I always thought these things were just 'wrong' - but hey, just my opinion

There's a number of Moore signatures. One is very desirable- the lemon burst one with a AAAAA top at unbound neck- sort of studios meets class 5. That has really risen in value- as my luck would have it I sold one 2 weeks before his death :( The BFG is not as desirable- decent guitar but nothing like the first model sig edition

  • A cursory Google search reveals a few pictures of him playing one - but with two 'real' '59 Les Pauls and various other vintage classics at his disposal, I can't imagine one ever made it on to a recording.

A friend of mine saw him live shortly before he died - according to him all the guitars he used live were old ones - including the Tele that he through on the stage in a fit of anger....

I saw him play a BFG in 2007 in Liverpool.

  • I'd say it's a Marmite guitar, looks wise. Presumably trickier to sell on than a more regular looking LP?
If you like the style of it, go for it, but I'd be tempted to go for a "normal" LP and whack a humbucker-sized P90 in the neck

    A bit old thread but,
Anybody who have experience with moore BFG.
Is the finish so bad or acceptable?
    Is the neck comfortable?
I don't care about the pickups..

I you mean the one that looks like someone took out lumps of wood with a teaspoon, I played one once but didnt buy it after journeying to see it. The finish is just too off the wall for me and the sounds from it where just ok - nothing standout or special.

When I saw Gary Moore in the late 80 s he played a pair of PRS Custom 24s and a Charvel. There is also a Les Paul Studio limited edition with a flamey top & no binding ala his original signature. Only ever seen one in an advert in a shop though

I prefer the look of the BFG.

However they are both pretty 'minging' looks wise.

At least a P90 would be useable.

    I quite like it.
I'm not a fan of all the plastic binding on Les Pauls but this one looks good in a restrained, subtle way.

I'd rather have a studio and trouser £100, although it doesn't come with that minging gold case....
