Thing is, from the looks of recent pace, you could put the Mercedes engine in the back of the McLaren and have it battling the Red Bulls for 3rd place. Probably no higher than that, but when you consider the amount of sponsorship they've haemorrhaged in the last couple of years, combined with the last-place prize money (or lack thereof) the 100m Honda is bring to the table is probably not netting out to much extra cash.  With Fred almost certain to leave they won't have his salary to meet next year either, so why not get the Mercedes until the new regs come in, and do a deal with a partner NOW to get a works engine for those next rules; BMW is probably the obvious one since they've got a deal (and history) with them for road car engines too. And talk to Liberty & co about getting whoever that is around the table helping design the new engine formula, just as Merc did way back when.

When he's on it he's untouchable - he's just not consistent.

One of Hamilton's best ever laps yesterday, and Vettel was only a smidge behind him. Hopefully we'll get a good race out of it; Ham is always quick in Montreal, but the Ferrari probably has a slight edge on the Merc in race trim. 

And the continued good noises coming from Kubica and Renault are very promising. Surely they need to get him in Palmer's car asap. RK could drive with his elbows and still be a better prospect than Jolyon.

Directed at the stewards I think for an additional penalty. He might get a slap for that like Vettel did last year.

Great race so far (lap 52/70). A shame for Max but Canada always delivers one way or another.

Agree, although having your nose ripped off by Verstappen wasn't lucky at all. Would have been a better race had Max not had car failure and Vettel not needed repairs.

Cracking race! Seemed to be over in a flash and I enjoyed every moment of it. The result keeps the championship alive too.

Yeah the initial incident was not luck obviously but the recovery to 4th needed substantial "good fortune" in order for it to occur including his team mates unfortunate break by wire failure. Then Force India shot themselves in the foot, if they'd allowed Ocon past Checo I'm not sure Vettel wouldv'e passed him afterwards and he would have finished 6th.The stars seem to align for him more than others in similar positions shall we say, lets see how vital them 3 extra places are come the end of the season!

Vettel drove well .. that overtake on the dirty side of the track flat out took some balls.
