A worn and played-in guitar is cool, a dirty guitar is not the same thing, therefore clean off the muck and be left with a seriously cool looking guitar!

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

    Interesting thread.
I saw recently that Snowy White's Gold Top had been put up for sale. If you were to buy that, surely you would be wondering if the (important) greening in the checking would er............change colour after cleaning.

I would probably just ask Snowy about his recent travel history.

No. I had one a bit like that - a 1970 Les Paul Deluxe. I tried cleaning it - it had not only gone green, the finish had gone a nasty sort of soft and dull as well - and when that failed, I… stripped it down to the wood. They weren't worth much back then, to be fair.

The green is a chemical change in the copper content of the gold paint, and once they've gone green they stay like that.

I was in the "leave it" school.... but the point about other people's dirt is a good one.
