I think I'll keep looking for an older Tele. I do like the compound radius necked Teles though.

They are just the Classic 60s with a red pickguard. Good price though.

    77?
Wouldn't that have a bullet truss rod adjuster and a 3 bolt plate?

the bridge not covering the hole is commonplace

Exactly - about £100 cheaper than a classic.

Only if it was a Custom, Deluxe or Thinline.

I have sent a politely worded refund request to him. It sounds OK but the splintery lacquer is a bit off putting to be honest. I like what the 77 Tele's represented at the time. They were a 'punk' guitar.
    Why specifically a 77 ?

The phrase "all original parts are included" should be enough for a SNAD claim.

  • This is a real shame. Couldn't help but think of the 74 jag I had when reading this. Echoing the above, refund all the way. £1200 should buy you a hell of a guitar. The refret looks hideous.

  • If I were you, I'd be on the lookout for a used american vintage 52.... A couple have sold on here for circa £800; that'd be a bargain for what you're getting, and would be a far superior instrument.

There is a 70s strat in the local shop. It's 2400 quid!

Has the bullet truss rod, and an odd, covered looking bridge. The wood looks really odd, it's got real grain, but it doesn't look real - and I think its a 3 piece, but didn't look closely.

The finish is a sunburst one but looks quite ugly and abrupt, it's in good nick though.

When I first looked at it, I assumed squier had released a model with an odd looking bridge. It looks like a cheap guitar to be honest! It's in good nick, but I'd have a hard time chalking up half that unless it played and sounded really, really amazing.

That's the stock bridge cover, they were all like that from '54 onwards.

I'm not going to lie, the only hardtail strat I've seen is that signature one, which is uncovered. I've seen the covers on trems before, but not on the modern hardtails.

Looks really annoying for playing to be honest, no wonder everyone takes them off!

I think pretty well all Fullerton Strats and Teles came with bridge covers, I probably still have a couple lying around.
Pointless, but kind of cool too.

    The '52 reissues are great.

The latest version is more 'period correct' - which means a big neck.

The older one has more mainstream dimensions.

I would take either over a late 70s one.

No, he hasn't. I sort of feel sorry for him if, what he stated, was in innocence. He was probably out spending his money.

Can you tell me if the tuners are the same on yours as they are on the telecaster I was sold?

  • Let's be carefull here that looks to me a genuine 70's style tele.
It's been re sprayed as have so many others, machine heads were often removed for Schaller or Grover at that time as well.
It's been refretted again common on 70's maple boards, the lacquer is sprayed over top of frets, so you will have to do complete respray or cut alongside frets as so many do, which then allows moisture in and it starts to peel.
Pots were often changed due to just dirt, as no one worried about originality back in 80's or even early 90's.
I have seen early 80's Fender cases exactly like that with black lining, before they changed to those shitty plastic ones.
Common to the 70's era tele's was the headstock face being a different colour to neck due to Cellulose on face and polyester round rest of neck.
Often with headstock not masked off so edges were often different as well.
Std 70-80's practice to me. Until they got their shit together that is. Put new pots in and play it!
