Has anyone used the Mackie SWA1501 subs before?

Seen a set locally for a decent price, yet I've seen an awfully large amount of reviews that massively contradict.
Some love them, some say they're really unreliable!

Does anyone have any first hand use?

I had one, it was ok but not very loud and much heavier in comparison to more modern things like qsc k sub although they are a lot more pricey.

  • Yes they are a heavy beast but do the job, as with all gear it can fail but no more reliable/unreliable than others out there depending on how its been used -thrashed 7 nights a week for years going to give in sometimes, used once a year  for bingo at the salvation army then your on to a winner.

They are reliable enough if looked after in terms of what you send em. They might be called subs but if you send em huge boosts of 30hz untamed kick and bass they will struggle. They are passively cooled which is good in terms of no fan to fail but this can also mean they run very hot in the summer leading to bad joints and such. The SRM18 is a better bet

Yeah it was mainly because there's a pair of them going for about £450 so seemed pretty cheap for a pair of subs.
We haven't got any at the moment so was thinking it could be good as a first pair. Was going to get a new set of the SRM18's but at over £1k at trade price, its a big difference!
