sending executables

What's Hot
I have 2 small DOS programs which I want to send to my cousin. email programs always block them as "harmful". I'm not sure that renaming them will help because some email snoopers actually read the file and they can tell it is a renamed exe. I could try putting them on dropbox I suppose. has anyone else any other ideas?

  • Stick em on a website? I was about to say "send them to me and I'll send them to him" - but I guess your email system won't let you send?

Transcribe the binary from the executable into text... then convert those 0s and 1s into black and white dominoes, placing them into numbered trays that can only hold 8 dominoes. Send the whole lot via carrier vole to the recipient who has but to get all the numbered trays in order then type out the 0s and 1s and recombobulate it into an exe file...

Simple... also even the NSA wont bother trying to intercept your data as it would take too bloomin long...

Win for both data transfer AND privacy

    ooh! Or!

Put the exe onto a usb stick and glue that stick to a carrier pigeon - send the pigeon to your cousin and bob's you're auntie!

sending isn't the problem. it's the receiving end. Outlook Express has a switch so that you can turn off blocking of things it thinks are "harmful", but she's not using OE.

Than zipping them or putting them in dropbox?

Technically it's still possible to send more data on physical media than through the ether (was on xkcd)... though I suspect (could be wrong) that this executable wont be that big...

But what if Phil doesn't have any blank cds or stamps? I still say pigeon...

If you're on a modern linux (which I assume since you;re always disparaging "Windoze") then you can use "compress" which will be built in.

Unless you are on XP most OS have built in support for zip files.

If you are on XP get WinRAR it's less than 2MB.
