Got an electric guitar finally and planning upgrades

The plan is to change the pups pots jack 5 way switch a purple scratch plate and trem cover with matching pup covers and knobs.
I'm on an extremely tight budget but as it's a cheap guitar as far as it can tell and what is paid in figure anything is better than the stock kit that's in there already. I've seen some Wilkinson HOT pups I like. Getting a full new wiring kit and pots from axetec and going to shield it inside as well. I'm ok with all the soldering involved as I've done a few electrical projects before. Just looking for any tips to make life a bit easier, I'm going to get the bits a few at a time as money allows some stuff is being bought for me in the form of Christmas pressies so by my reckoning in should have it done for the new year
